Raising awareness of the self-employment opportunities available to local residents receiving incapacity benefit will be the focus of a series of lunch time presentations being sponsored by the Barking & Dagenham Small Business Centre (BDSBC).

The ‘Start-up a Business’ presentations will be held at local community halls in Barking and Dagenham and will highlight the free business services and support available from the Centre. These include a specific business start-up grant of £3000 for people who move from incapacity benefit into self-employment.

Pre-start Advisor, Deanna Vinton, says:
We are inviting local residents to these informal events, at which there will be short presentations over a buffet lunch and at which there will be ample opportunity to learn more about what self-employment entails and the free support and advice available through BDSBC”.

She continues:
We are contacting residents by post and places are strictly limited. The first 200 people to reply will be invited to attend on dates in July and we hope to arrange further dates in the future based on demand”.

The Centre is keen to talk to anyone considering self employment or looking for business advice, training, finance and all its services are free. Contact BDSBC for more information on: 020 8911 3737; e-mail: bdsbc@bdsbc.org; or visit www.bdsbc.org
